Take on your friends in the Versus Room

New for 2010, want to play games against each other in ways you never expected? You won’t want to miss this room! Have you ever wanted to take on nine other people in a frantic-paced game of Bomberman?  Or take on two Xbox consoles against one another hooked up via an ethernet cable?  Or maybe just check out a four player NES title?  Then you won’t want to miss this incredible addition to the Classic Gaming and Computing area in 2010 — the Versus Room! Electronic games have always been better when there are more people playing them.  Many pinball machines even sported the slogan that ‘It is more fun to compete!’  But sometimes, it seems that most home game consoles until recently weren’t made to support more than two people at a time.  It wasn’t until the N64 was released in 1996 that the United States had a console that supported four players at once out of the box. What this means is that many gamers missed some of the most impressive multiplayer games, since often the adapters to run these games were expensive or rare or both.  Even the Atari 2600 sported four player simultanious games, and you’ll get a chance to check some of these awesome titles out in the Versus Room in 2010! But that isn’t all — after the N64, console manufacturers really took gaming in a different direction.  Many consoles including the Playstation and Xbox allowed gamers to hook them up using system links of various types to play games versus one another literally using two consoles side by side.  Between the cost of purchasing a second system, system link cable, and two copies of the game you wanted to play, these games were pretty rare to play in this format too…  but you’ll also get a chance to check out some of these awesome titles in the Versus Room for 2010! The Versus Room is just one more addition to the amazing line up of interactive displays for the 2010 Midwest Gaming Classic!  The Midwest Gaming Classic puts a premium on ensuring the gamer actually gets to game while he or she is at the show, and the addition of this hugely competitive room will only further that ability.  You won’t want to miss the Versus Room or anything else at the 2010 Midwest Gaming Classic!

Pinball Passion to be Screened

This spectacular documentary will be shown as part of the Midwest Gaming Classic festivities! The new pinball documentary, Pinball Passion, will be on hand and screened for interested guests at the Midwest Gaming Classic this year.  If you haven’t heard about Pinball Passion, perhaps the best description comes from the movie-makers themselves, who said this on the PinballPassion.com web site: “Pinball has a long and rich history dating back to the 1930’s and continues to grow and evolve today.

NBA Fastbreak Head-to-Head Tourney Announced

The Bally title NBA Fastbreak was notable for having a link feature, but it is rare that you ever found them linked to play…  but at this year’s show, you’ll be able to compete against someone else to find out who is better! Bally’s NBA Fastbreak game introduced a new concept — using a couple parts, you could connect two games together, and players could face off head-to-head style in a unique, timed event.  Unfortunately, finding a location that had two NBA Fastbreak pinball machines was tough to do, and finding a location that actually had those two games linked was nearly impossible. At this year’s Midwest Gaming Classic, there will be two linked NBA Fastbreak machines for a tournament!  Qualify throughout the day by playing the game in the normal fashion that the game was played in, and at the end of the day the top players will face off against eachother in head-to-head pinball to see who the best player is! If you think that you can play this unique Bally game in both of it’s styles and be the best, you won’t want to miss this unique tournament!

Sword of Fargoal Creator Jeff McCord to Speak

Classic computers and modern gaming collide in this awesome presentation from Jeff McCord about the game he helped to create in 1982 for the Commodore VIC-20, and was just recently ported to the iPhone! What is it like to change the face of computer gaming by releasing a monumental computer game in 1982, and then porting it to other computer systems…  all while you are in high school?  And then, what it is like to revisit that game years later and port it to the iPhone? Jeff McCord, the creator of the Sword of Fargoal game will be on hand at the Midwest Gaming Classic on Saturday to tell you just what it was like, as his award winning game the Sword of Fargoal did just that! After developing the game in BASIC in 1982, Jeff was offered a publishing deal from Epyx, Inc to bring it out on the VIC-20, and later the C-64.  Both of these versions of the game were very well received, and are fondly remembered today by Commodore fans worldwide — in fact, nearly 15 years after it was created, it was remembered as one of the best computer games of all time by Computer Gaming World! Now, the Sword of Fargoal has returned and it is winning rave reviews once again with a whole new generation of fans — the game was ported to the iPhone last year, and continues to wow people today, even being named one of the top iPhone games of 2009 by TouchArcade
